FCS RELEASES THE FCS VS KNUBSTER

Following Kelly Slater’s phenomenal 11th World Title victory, FCS is pleased to announce the release of the FCS VS KNUBSTER. Regarded by many as Kelly’s secret weapon during the second half of the 2011 ASP season, this specialised quad centre fin is now available to surfers around the globe.

Developed by Sean Mattison for Von Sol surfboards, the FCS VS KNUBSTER is essentially a centre fin that can be added to any quad set-up. The fin will increase drive and provide directional control through turns, without sacrificing speed, flow, or the freedom of movement typically associated with a quad.

The “KNUBSTER” is designed with a single tab that allows the fin to be positioned in the forward and rear centre plug to cater for the individual drive requirements of each surfer.

The FCS VS KNUBSTER, which is 3 3/4” by 2” high, was the 5th fin Kelly Slater used in his boards during the Quiksilver Pro in New York. According to Kelly’s report, “The KNUBSTER makes your quad set-up feel faster, smoother, and it adds a little more control. It just tightens everything it up a bit”.

Interestingly Kelly was riding the FCS VS KNUBSTER when he scored his two 10 point rides in 2011. The first at the Quiksilver Pro in NY where he performed one of the best airs ever seen in competition, and the second at The Rip Cur Pro in Portugal in heaving barrels.

Adding the FCS VS KNUBSTER to your quad set-up is an affordable way to add a new dimension to your surfing. FCS recommends using the fin with the FCS K2.1 Quad.

FCS Gerry Lopez SUP Tri-Quad Fin Set

With the GL Tri-Quad SUP fin set, Gerry Lopez and FCS Fins teamed up to create an ideal tri-quad set for SUP stand up paddleboards. This 5 fin set gives the surfer a choice of a thruster fin set-up, or a Quad. These are the most popular fin set-ups for top pro longboard surfers, and thus it's a good bet for use in high-performance stand up paddle surfing as well. All stand up paddle boards have a longboard centre fin box, so this set includes one centre fin with a longboard fin box base and four fins with standard FCS Fins bases for the side bites/quad. These fin sets would also work great on a longboard as well as SUP.

The "COSMIC DEMON"

The Cosmic Demon is a super small wave model built for wind swells in all countries around the world that regularly find themselves in such weak waves. It has a mega flat rocker along with a curvy plane shape to fit into small wave faces along with a slight single into double concave with a slight vee through tail. This model is glassed very light to make it responsive in the smallest conditions and is very fast off the mark.(Generally set up with Tri Quad option)

The "TOW"

I created this board to tow into waves at Shipsterns and Teahupoo. Team riders Laurie Towner and Dean Bowen ride this model too. Personally tested - it will not fail you at the heaviest waves on the planet. Made with a very deep single concave with low rails, drawn in plain shape and a deep cut moon tail for extra hold. Maximum speed is best when used as a quad but also good as a thruster.

Rob Machado signature fin

Rob Machado and Futures partnered up to design a fin that fuses cutting edge technology with environmentalism. The fin uses renewable, fast growing, bamboo that is both light and resilient coupled with carbon fiber to create a torsional flex pattern. The bamboo carbon matrix stores potential energy during turns to release it at the end with a burst of kinetic speed. They are made with quality epoxy resin instead of polyester; not only is Epoxy stiffer, lighter, and better performing, but epoxy is also stronger for a longer lasting life and releases less VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) than polyester resin. We believe these fins represent a step forward in decreasing the environmental impact of the RTM process while remaining Lightest, Strongest, Fastest.

Julian Wilson Signature Fin - JW-1

After much anticipation FCS is pleased to announce the release of Julian Wilson’s new signature fin, the JW-1. As fate would have it, the development of this fin coincided with the filming of Julian’s signature movie “Scratching the Surface”. The hectic travel itinerary meant Jules was able to test and refine his fin in a diverse range of waves.
Once the template was locked down, Jules tried different foil options and constructions in order to achieve that ‘perfect flex’. In the end a traditional flat foil in Performance Glass construction prevailed. The final piece of the puzzle was to make the JW-1 pop, and steered by Julian’s recommendations, we arrived at the unmistakable aesthetic of solid orange neon framed with a black border.

Performance

The JW-1 is a medium size fin geared towards fast, aggressive surfing. The side fin template lends elements of Kelly Slater’s K2.1 and the FCS G-5, delivering fast pivotal surfing in critical sections. A slightly smaller centre fin template also triggers quick tail release. Jules rides this fin in everything from 1 foot to 4-6 foot. We asked him why surfers should ride his fin, his reply was; “This fin won’t hold you back, it’ll let you do everything you desire… if you can do it?”
